Abhishek Bachchan plays the character of Refugee, living on the Indo-Pak border, who escorts 'bhatke-hue musafir' to Paki territory. He falls in love with Kareena Kapoor who plays Naaz, daughter of a Bangladeshi refugee and is quite a sassy, young thing. Across the border love flourishes along with terrorism as Refugee one day escorts Pakistani militants into India. Meanwhile Naaz's parents get to know of her romance with the refugee and oppose the match.
The Pakistani ranger, Ashraf (Sunil Shetty) steps in to save Naazo's life as she is planning to elope with Refugee. Meanwhile, Refugee is beaten up and sent to India with a sack of RDX. Jackie Shroff, the Indian counterpart to Sunil Shetty questions Refugee and informs him that he has aided Paki militant's entry in to India. Refugee turns into a BSF ranger to undo the damage done. The couple are separated for a while only to be reunited in the end, as a pregnant Naaz walks up the isle at the Haji Pir ka mela assisted by none other than scorned lover, Sunil Shetty.
