A film about relationship...A film about love...A love ... that broke all relationships... KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA(KANK) is another movie from Karan Johar about human relationships. Shot in New York with a star cast of Shah Rukh Khan,Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Kiron Kher - KANK is the most awaited movie of 2006.
KANK centers on the budding romance between Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji - both married to different people.
Rani is married to Abhishek Bachchan and Shah Rukh is married to Priety Zinta. Both the couples are settled into a life of domestic routine, and are convinced that they are happy in their respective relationships, yet the protagonists still yearn for something deeper and more meaningful, which is precisely what they find in each other.
From a relationship starting off in pleasant barbs, the two begin to develop and acknowledge the feelings they have beneath the surface. When their feelings come to the fore, what results is a collision of lives and emotions, affecting everyone involved and changing them forever.
Directors Note: Human relationships have always perplexed me. These seemingly simple bonds between people can amount to so much and cause such upheaval that lives change drastically with a minute change in these equations. Especially in a fast changing world of today, such changes seem magnified hundred fold forcing us to question our age old definitions of relationships and commitment. The seed for Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) was born somewhere from these thoughts.
The alarming statistics of failing marriages in the recent times, often made me wonder about the relevance of the institution to our society today. With men and women handling far more responsibilities than what was conventionally assigned to them centuries ago, it is natural for them to expect more from life for themselves.
So in this complex scenario how much does one compromise on self-gratification for the sake of commitment' Or should one compromise at all' Not that I have found solutions while making the film but even if I don't have the right answers, I'm glad that I could raise a few right questions through KANK and I sincerely hope that the movie, apart from fulfilling its apparent role of entertainment also inspires people to look into their relationships to resolve their issues...!
