Sunil Shetty

Biography

Sunil Shetty, one of the few macho men in the Bollywood, was born on 9th Aug. He started his debut in 1992 with Balwann opposite Divya Bharati.

Sunil Shetty, the Leo man, is best known for his style in thrills - the way he manhandles the villain group and executes the fights. And he's known for his gentlemanly attitude off the screen too.

So after a long barren spell at the box office when around 21 out of his 28 films flopped miserably, Shetty finally salvaged his dwindling career with films like Mohra and Border. Then the resounding success of Priyadarshan's Hera Pheri gave his career a new lease of life while Refugee and Jungle has got him on cloud nine.

One of the promising stars to have hit the silver screen in the last decade Sunil Shetty stays clear of petty politics of the tinsel world and maintains a low profile. For this reason perhaps he has the choicest projects in his kitty despite his innumerable debacles at the box office.

And off the screen, he has quite a happy home with his wife "Manna" and the two children "Atiya" and Aahan".

1992 to 1997 Shetty?s first movie was Balwaan in 1992 with Divya Bharathi. In 1993 his hit quotient increased after his performance in Anth. He joined hands with Akshay Kumar in Wagt Hamara Hain (1993) and then again in the blockbuster Mohra (1994). He worked in movies like Suraksha (1995), Takkar (1995) and Rakshak (1996). The movie J.P.Dutta?s Border (1997) about army men was well received and his role as Captain Bhairon Singh won him a nomination for Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.

1998 to 2002 After Vinashak (1998), Hu Tu Tu (1999) and Krodh (2000) he along with Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar worked together in the laugh riot Hera Pheri (2000). Another J.P.Dutta release Refugee (2000) that was the debut of Abhishek Bacchan and Kareena Kapoor did moderate business. Dhadkan (2000) with Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty, in which he played a spurned lover, was a hit.

2003 to 2009 He was seen in Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003), LOC Kargil (2003), Rudraksh (2004), Main Hoon Na (2004) that cast him as the terrorist Raghavan, Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav (2005), Tango Charlie (2005), Paheli (2005) which was nominated as India?s official entry for the Academy Awards, Fight Club: Members Only (2006) and Darna Zaroori Hai (2006).

In 2006, he appeared in Priyadarshan?s Chup Chup Ke, the sequel Phir Hera Pheri and as Faiz Ali in Umrao Jaan. He played the role of Inspector Kaviraj Patil in Apoorva Lakhia?s Shootout at Lokhandwala. He produced and starred in Mission Istanbul (2008).

He will be recreating the comic chemistry with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal in International Hera Pheri. Blue and Paathshaala are two other movies he?s working in.
